Non-IT , Accomplishments:


• Mentored by family friend, then self-learned, then analysed the real estate market in Toronto and very successfully bought, renovated, sold and principally managed a series of properties.

Result: Real estate activities represented a 100% increase in my annual income. Also every house sale making a profit, 1985-1999.


• Self-Learned, analysed and set-up a ranching operation for a family business, in Ottawa. Ostriches, Lamas and goats were bred, and sold for profit. The self-garnered skill set was huge, a farmer.

Result: Realized over $20,000 in revenue from high-risk venture.


• A Member of the CSPS (Canadian Ski Patrol System) CPR, advanced 1st aid, triage

Result: Handling tricky situations is all part of the job. Great people skills are required when the others are sometimes at their worst.


• Studied Martial Arts from 1991 to 1997 In Toronto. The style was one of the traditional All Japanese Federation styles, under Sensei Dave Mannara in Toronto. Spent the last 1.5 years teaching in New Market as secondary instructor. Formally trained again 2005-2009 in a different style, in Ottawa.

Result:
1. Achieved 1st Dan Black belt. Taught both adults and children “the way”, while leaving a special and lasting impression on my students.

2. Sensei Mannara asked me to teach a new student who was 100% wheel chair bound. An article appeared in Toronto Sun, the honour of being the one “chosen”, for this difficult and different task, was great.


• Graduated the Dale Carnegie course on Effective Speaking and Human Relations. Then became a Graduate Assistent.

Result: helped instruct others in achieving their personal goals, and left a special and lasting impression on my students. I was the only instructor to receive a card from his students, which stands in my office to this day.


• Under extremely adverse conditions, including but not limited to, a special needs child, raised two "good" kids.

Result: Well...yeh!


• Self taught and then executed a very advanced House reno; new kitchen, bathrooms, even complete out-buildings (cabana, farming). Full featured with every trade skill required.

Result: the confidence and experience to meet whatever requirements for skill a client may need. Physical or mental.

IT - Information Technology, Accomplishments:


  • Founded and built Horizon Technologies Limited, a successful 5 person consulting firm in Toronto.

    Result: Ongoing employment and income support for 5 people including myself


  • Founded and built a successful Internet based business. Principals in Ottawa. One of the sites, www.lookontheweb.com in the remaining, www.look.com, family of sites.

    Result: Industry acclaim for, and interest in the work, the results, marketing, partnerships and technology elements.


  • Learned the Capital Markets banking business, in very short order, by analysing and then creating the software and business processes that developed into the first 2 generations of Capital Market – derivative software systems for CIBC.

    Result: Our small team of 5 (2 traders, 1 admin, 2 analyst/developers) responsible for 10% of bank’s net profit for the 1st full year of running my software systems.


  • Pioneered Canada (coast to coast) as a brand new sales territory for 3 different USA based software sales companies.

    Result: Set records, and in one instance had my single 2-person team replaced with 3x2person teams a year later, reflecting the level of growth achieved


  • While in University, full time, saw an opportunity not to be missed, and founded a company. A hardware manufacturer, importor, sales and service business.

    Result: Grossed $120,000 in my last year at UofT.


  • Created and over saw, a complete automation project of a manufacturing facility for children’s orthotics. Self-Learned the business, analysed, then programmed and sub-contracted over 5 years. It was a multi-generational project to place computers at every level of manufacturing, accounting and client service.

    Result: Office of 3 professionals 5 support staff, all Computer Novices were placed into a fully computerized environment and were not required to know much about computers, staying focused on their expertise.


  • As 1 of 2 private contractors to complete all elements of a mainframe elimination project. Identified and meet all the requirements, and despite the magnitude of: the schedule, future functionality of the replacement system, and budget, we were on time and on budget. A true rabbit from the hat.

    Result: Meet and exceeded customer's needs, enhanced reputation leading to increaased consulting demand for HTL..


  • Project Head for an International multi-lingual development team. Completed 3 platform integrations for an AI system where one integration was planned.

    Result: Outstanding product released which saw European success and acceptence.


  • Negotiated separate but concurrent contracts with Overture and Google, so that our site www.look.com was for some time, and likely was "the only" web site on the planet, to have both services on a single site concurrently.

    Result: Substantially increased daily revenue.


  • Negotiated a contract with Outblaze, of Hong Kong, a large independent email service provider, so that our company was the first to partner with them, without having to pay any startup cost, an all profit sharing deal.

    Result: Look.com got another marketing tool and revenue source for free upfront and ongoing!
